Brooks Koepka prometió que el domingo en Oak Hill no sería una repetición del domingo en Augusta National.
Koepka se mantuvo fiel a su palabra, y con un 67 (-3) en la ronda final, se lleva el PGA Championship terminando con nueve bajo par, dos golpes delante de Scottie Scheffler (65) y de Viktor Hovland (68).
Koepka y Hovland, jugando juntos en el grupo final, estaban separados por un golpe en el hoyo 16, cuando Hovland mandó su golpe de salida a un bunker de fairway, y con ese tiro perdió cualquier oportunidad que tenía de conseguir su primer major.
Koepka, por su parte, hizo birdie en el 16 y ganaba por cuatro golpes con dos por jugar. Cerró con un bogey en el 17 y un par en el 18.
Esta fue la quinta victoria de Kopeka en un major y su tercer Trofeo Wanamaker (2018, 2019), uniéndose a James Braid, John Henry Taylor, Byron Nelson, Peter Thomson y Seve Ballesteros en el puesto 15 de la lista de ganadores de majors de todos los tiempos.
